Slow Stitching - Portable Altars & Memory Pockets
Slow Stitch Portable Altars & Memory Pockets
Join me for another slow stitch adventure as we create portable altars, also known as memory pockets, pocket shrines, or treasure pouches. These small, hand-stitched creations are designed to hold meaningful objects, special memories, personal intentions, or tiny treasures gathered along life's journey.
Portable altars have roots in many traditions and cultures. They offer a way to carry reminders of what matters most—whether that's a favorite quote, a meaningful symbol, a treasured photograph, a found object from nature, or a simple reminder to slow down and be present. Some people use them as keepsakes, some as memory holders, and others as creative expressions of gratitude, reflection, or personal storytelling.
In this relaxing 4-hour workshop, we'll use felt, fabric, thread, beads, buttons, and other embellishments to create a unique hand-stitched piece that reflects your own story and interests. Along the way, you'll learn basic slow stitching techniques, layering, embellishment, and simple construction methods that can be used in future textile projects.
No sewing experience is necessary. This class is designed for beginners as well as experienced makers who enjoy the meditative process of hand stitching. Slow stitching encourages creativity without pressure, allowing you to work at your own pace while enjoying the rhythm of needle and thread.
All supplies are included.
What You'll Learn
Basic slow stitch and hand-sewing techniques
Layering felt and fabric for texture and interest
Adding embellishments such as beads, buttons, and decorative stitching
Creating pockets and compartments for treasured keepsakes
Using textiles to tell personal stories and preserve memories
Take Home
Each participant will leave with a completed or well-started portable altar/memory pocket and the skills to continue exploring slow stitch projects at home.
Come spend time stitching, reflecting, and creating a small handmade object filled with meaning and personal connection.
